A landmark in the making
The Heart of 66 will be a large-scale public sculpture — two ribbons of steel rising into an open heart — standing in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the midpoint of Route 66 between Chicago and Santa Monica.
Right now it exists as the concept you see here: a drawing. The work ahead is engineering, fabrication, and installation — and the town-sized effort of paying for it, together.
What it will take
Our working estimate for the complete project is $50,000–$150,000. The range is wide on purpose — it narrows as engineering and fabrication quotes come in, and this page will keep pace with the real numbers.
Fabrication
Steel, forming the ribbons, welding, and finishing that will hold its color through New Mexico sun.
Site & installation
Site preparation, the concrete base, crane time, and assembly.
